The Boundary Waters - Northern Minnesota and into Canada

Although Minnesota currently looks like a frozen wasteland, spring will soon be here. The early spring brings die hard fisherman to the boundary waters, as right after the ice-melt is a great time to fish. Green bursts out of the once colorless hills and trees, and many animals come out in full springtime activity.

The early spring does have its drawbacks in the Boundary Waters... First off, mosquitoes! My wife and I took an early spring trip last year and the mosquitoes were terrible. The water is also cold and less comfortable for swimming. The weather tends to be more unpredictable in the spring as well...

Midsummer in the boundary waters offers warmer water for swimming, and usually there are less mosquitos in the springtime as well. It is really hot and humid during the summer, swimming helps you bear it, but be warned, it gets hot! Another drawback is that the fishing isn't typically as good in the middle of the summer as it is in the spring or fall.

The fall colors add a unique beauty to the boundary waters. It is also less hot and humid. The fish leave the depths of the lakes coming closer to the water surface, which greatly improves the fishing.
